Supporting learning continuity for multilingual learners during disruption

With some schools needing to quickly adapt to unexpected remote learning, access to easy-to-share resources can help keep learning both structured and engaging.

We’ve gathered a selection of our printable resources that can be shared digitally to support your multilingual learners in continuing their English language learning.

Resources for learners

Engage parents

Our EAL holiday challenge resource is a great way to get parents and carers involved too! While typically used during a school break, this activity grid is designed for use at home. From watching a cartoon or film with subtitles to using the FlashAcademy® object translator around the home, each activity encourages meaningful language use without feeling like homework.

It can be used with or without a FlashAcademy® subscription and includes additional information for parents and carers on how and why to complete each activity.

Resources for educators

As well as resources for your learners, we have a range of resources and strategic tools you might like to access:

Tips for FlashAcademy® subscribers

If you have a FlashAcademy® subscription, here are some tips on how to encourage use of the app at home and by all teachers.

  • Use tasks to guide learning
Set whole-class or individual tasks with clear goals and deadlines to keep learners focused.
  • Set subject-specific vocabulary
Encourage all teachers to assign key vocabulary linked to their subject areas.
  • Create custom lessons
Build tailored word lists to match individual learner needs.
  • Encourage little and often use
Short, regular sessions help build consistency and maximise screen value.
  • Make use of word games
These are a simple way to keep learners engaged while reinforcing vocabulary.
  • Share remote learning resources
Use printable and offline materials, such as those suggested above, alongside the app for a blended learning approach.
  • Involve parents and carers
Encourage support at home to help learners stay motivated and on track.
  • Keep learners connected
Set points challenges and share the live leaderboard to build a sense of community even when learning remotely.
