Outstanding Curriculum and Assessment Resource (Secondary)

Accelerate English proficiency with FlashAcademy®

FlashAcademy®’s EAL learning app is a curriculum-aligned digital learning platform designed to support EAL learners in UK schools as they develop English language proficiency, subject vocabulary and confidence.

After learners’ English needs have been identified in the assessment platform, the learning app provides structured, curriculum-aligned lessons that help them develop the language they need to participate, understand and succeed in school.

The learning app forms a core part of FlashAcademy®’s end-to-end EAL approach, connecting assessed need with purposeful learning and ongoing progress tracking on our teacher dashboard. This creates a clear, consistent journey that supports both language development and learner confidence over time.

Flexible EAL assessment that adapts to every learner

Supports progress at the right level

Adaptive learning pathways provide targeted, level-appropriate support based on each learner’s stage of English proficiency. This helps learners experience early success, maintain motivation and build confidence as they develop their English over time.

Builds confidence in all key skills

Learners develop listening, speaking, reading and writing through structured activities that reflect how English is used in school. Developing all four skills together supports meaningful language use and helps learners participate more confidently in lessons.

Strengthens access to the curriculum

Learning progresses from everyday communication towards academic language and subject-specific vocabulary, helping learners understand lesson content, follow instructions and demonstrate learning across subjects.

Reinforces learning with immediate feedback

Instant feedback supports learners as they work independently, reinforcing understanding and helping them recognise progress. By combining clear progression with adaptive support, the learning app helps learners develop English steadily and confidently alongside their wider curriculum learning.

Why targeted EAL learning matters

EAL learners need the right English vocabulary and language structures to fully participate and understand lessons, even when subject knowledge is secure in their home language. Without this, progress, confidence and access to the curriculum can be affected over time.

With structured, level-appropriate EAL learning, FlashAcademy® helps remove these barriers. Targeted support develops the academic language and subject-specific vocabulary learners need to engage confidently in lessons and demonstrate what they know across subjects.

Supporting curriculum access in line with Ofsted expectations

As expectations around inclusion have increased, schools are expected to show how EAL learners are supported to access the curriculum in practice. FlashAcademy® provides a clear, consistent way to deliver and evidence this support across learning, assessment and progress tracking, in line with Ofsted expectations.
