In the UK, winter has arrived and it is almost time for a long awaited break! We’ve collated some of our resources for you to use in the lead up to the holidays or to keep your learners engaged while away from school. Expect to find fun and accessible resources, ready to share with your EAL students. You can print things off or share them digitally, it’s entirely up to you!

Want to share the joy of Christmas?

Christmas is a traditional holiday celebrated in the UK. Your EAL students might be interested in learning more about the holiday even if they don’t celebrate it themselves. Here are a range of fun resources to help you bring the festivities to your classroom.

Health and wellbeing during the holiday break

While holidays bring lots of fun and excitement, they can also be a challenging time for people who miss their usual routines and structure. Here are some resources focused on maintaining positive health and wellbeing.

Let’s get creative!

Set your students a creative writing task they can share next term. Ask them to tell the class a story on what they did during the break and whether their families have any interesting traditions.

Christmas flashcards: Print and cut out the vocabulary flashcards, put them in envelopes and ask students to open them during the Christmas holidays. They can draw their own pictures on the other side of the word!

Object translator: For independent learning from home, advise students, parents, or carers to utilise the Object Translator tool to learn new words, like ‘scarf’ or ‘hat’.
