We’re proud to share that the Education Investor Power List 2026 has shortlisted Veejay Lingiah, FlashAcademy® CEO and co-founder, for Education Innovator.
The category recognises individuals whose ideas solve challenges in education and improve learning. Veejay’s shortlisting reflects his work to help schools support multilingual learners. Through FlashAcademy®, teachers can assess English proficiency, personalise learning and evidence progress.
A personal connection to language learning
For Veejay, the mission behind FlashAcademy® has a personal beginning. His parents came to Birmingham from Malaysia and Mauritius and developed their English while working. As a result, their experiences helped shape his ambition to make language learning more accessible.
Founded in Birmingham, FlashAcademy® has supported more than 700,000 learners across 2,400 institutions in over 30 countries. Throughout that journey, Veejay has maintained a clear focus: helping learners access education and opportunities with confidence.
Supporting teachers and improving learner outcomes
Under Veejay’s leadership, the FlashAcademy® team has developed tools that help schools understand learners’ needs. Teachers can then use these insights to deliver targeted EAL support.
For example, AI-assisted marking helps teachers assess English proficiency while keeping their professional judgement central to the process. By reducing marking time, it also gives teachers more time to support learners.
Partner schools demonstrate the difference these tools can make. At The International School @ ParkCity Hanoi, total assessment time fell by 84%, even as assessment frequency doubled. At GEMS FirstPoint School, 91% of students improved by at least one English proficiency grade.
In addition, partnerships with international school groups, including International Schools Partnership and GEMS Education, have also helped more schools establish a consistent approach to EAL assessment, learning and progress tracking.
Shaped by the schools we support
Working closely with educators remains central to Veejay’s approach. Through FlashAcademy®’s EAL Advisory Group, customer schools help shape product development around the challenges they face in classrooms. In turn, their feedback helps the team prioritise practical improvements for teachers and learners.
Alongside this, free webinars and in-person events bring educators together to share practical approaches to multilingual learner support, assessment and inclusion.
The shortlisting also follows two major awards for FlashAcademy® in 2026: BESA Exporter of the Year and EdTechX Innovator of the Year. Together, these achievements celebrate the work of our team and the schools we support.
We’re delighted to see Veejay’s contribution recognised and look forward to celebrating alongside the other finalists.
