FlashAcademy® wins Tech for Good award at Birmingham Tech Week 2025

FlashAcademy® has been named the winner of the Tech for Good category at the Birmingham Tech Week Awards 2025, recognising the platform’s positive social impact on multilingual learners, teachers and communities across the UK and around the world.

The award celebrates organisations using technology to improve lives. FlashAcademy® was recognised for its mission to unlock the potential of all children and young people held back by a language barrier, and for the measurable difference the platform is making across schools, colleges and local authorities.

Today, FlashAcademy® has supported more than 2,400 institutions and over 700,000 learners, making it the UK’s leading digital platform for English as an Additional Language (EAL) assessment and learning. With one in five pupils in England now multilingual, the need for efficient, inclusive and evidence-based EAL provision has never been greater.

Technology with meaningful impact

FlashAcademy® addresses a major challenge for education: ensuring every learner can access the curriculum regardless of their level of English. The platform combines over 850 interactive lessons, home language support in 48 languages and adaptive assessments that track progress from admission through to review.

A key innovation is the platform’s AI-assisted marking, which saves teachers, on average, up to 150 hours per year by providing fast, consistent and insight-rich feedback. This allows staff to focus more time on targeted intervention and learner support.

Independent evaluation shows that 45% of EAL pupils using FlashAcademy® progress by at least one proficiency grade annually, compared with 18% nationally. Schools such as Mamoura British Academy, Thistley Hough Academy and The International School @ ParkCity Hanoi have seen significant gains in assessment efficiency, learner confidence and academic outcomes.

At ParkCity Hanoi, the shift to FlashAcademy® reduced assessment time by 84%, enabling teachers to double assessment frequency while spending more time planning high quality interventions.

Designed in partnership with educators

FlashAcademy® has been developed closely with teachers, EAL leads and senior leadership teams to ensure every feature reflects real classroom needs. This collaborative approach underpins the platform’s effectiveness and ensures it continues to evolve with the sector.

Alongside the learner and assessment tools, FlashAcademy® offers leadership dashboards, data insights and Grow, an on-demand CPD programme that helps all staff confidently support multilingual learners.

“Until no child is held back by a language barrier”

CEO Veejay Lingiah dedicated the win to the educators and learners who shape the platform every day:

“FlashAcademy® exists to unlock the potential of every child held back by a language barrier. This award reflects the dedication of teachers who use our technology to make a difference to their learners. We will continue to refine and improve our platform until no young person is limited by their level of English.”

Hear from Veejay himself on how FlashAcademy® is advancing tech for good:

To date, more than four million lessons and 165,000 assessments have been completed through FlashAcademy®, with impact accelerating as more institutions adopt digital EAL support.
